Jennifer Coplan, Partner

Jennifer B. Coplan is a partner in the Technology Transactions practice group in the Firm's Business department.  Ms. Coplan joined Cooley in 2007 and is resident in the New York office.

Ms. Coplan practices in the area of intellectual property and information technology law.  She has extensive experience advising clients on complex technology transactions, including technology development, licensing, outsourcing and services arrangements; the protection and licensing of intellectual property; and the establishment and operation of Internet-based businesses and services.  Ms. Coplan also regularly counsels leading international consumer electronics, technology and motion picture companies in connection with a variety of matters relating to copyright, content protection, digital rights management, and the distribution of digital entertainment content.

Ms. Coplan was named one of The Best Lawyers in America for 2008, 2009 and 2010 and was recognized by New York Magazine as among the New York Area's top lawyers in Technology Law for 2007, 2008 and 2009.  Ms. Coplan speaks on intellectual property and Internet law issues and has authored various articles in the field, including those published in Journal of the Japanese Institute of International Business Law.  Ms. Coplan was appointed in November 2004 as an Advisor to the American Law Institute's five-year "Principles of the Law of Software Contracts" project.  She was a member of the Information Technology Law Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York from 2000-2003.

Ms. Coplan received a J.D. from Yale Law School in 1993.  A software engineer prior to attending law school, she has a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Tufts University, where she graduated summa cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
