Jennifer Massey is a partner in Cooley's business department and a member of the Technology Transactions group. Ms. Massey joined the Firm in 2012 and is a founding partner of its Los Angeles office.
Ms. Massey's practice focuses on the technology, entertainment and digital media industries. She advises public and high-growth, private companies in their entertainment and content-related initiatives, as well as in the convergence of entertainment and technology. She has sourced, structured and executed a wide array of transactions with new media companies in the social gaming, mobile, consumer Internet and social networking sectors.
Ms. Massey also works with top-level Hollywood talent (actors, writers, producers, directors, TV showrunners, comedians and athletes) in transactions spanning traditional media (television and film) and new media (emerging platforms). A significant part of Ms. Massey ‘s practice involves counseling talent and content creators in partnering with and investing in technology companies, as well as building and leveraging their brands across new media platforms. Ms. Massey has deep connections within the entertainment industry, and works regularly with the leading talent agencies and management firms in Hollywood.
Ms. Massey also represents companies and talent clients in a broad spectrum of licensing transactions, and provides counsel in issues of intellectual property protection and management, social media, and navigating Hollywood.
Prior to joining Cooley, Ms. Massey was a partner at Morris Yorn Barnes Levine Krintzman Rubenstein & Kohner, a Los Angeles based entertainment law firm. Ms. Massey began her career in Silicon Valley as a business and technology attorney at Brobeck Phleger & Harrison. Ms. Massey sits on the advisory board of several startups.
