Michael S. Levinson is a partner in the Cooley Godward Kronish Business department. He joined the Firm in 2006 and is resident in the San Diego office.
Mr. Levinson focuses his practice in the areas of real estate and business matters. Michael represents clients across all classes of real estate including raw land, retail, office, industrial, and multi-family residential. Besides having handled hundreds of acquisitions, dispositions, leases and other real estate transactions, he has extensive experience with debt financing, equity investments and syndications, and complex joint-venture arrangements.
Before joining the Firm, Mr. Levinson was Of Counsel at Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP.
Mr. Levinson was born in San Diego in 1957. He graduated with Distinction from Stanford University in 1978. He received his law degree from Stanford Law School in 1981 (Order of the Coif), where he was Senior Projects Editor of the Stanford Law Review. He clerked for the Hon. William A. Norris of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals prior to practicing law in New York with Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and in San Diego with Solomon Ward Seidenwurm & Smith, where he was a partner in the real estate and business departments. He was admitted to practice law in California in 1982 and in New York in 1983.
From 1991 to 2001, Mr. Levinson was a senior executive with Marika, a San Diego-based women's athletic apparel manufacturer. He held the positions of General Counsel, VP-Business Development, Chief Operating Officer and then President for the last six years.
Mr. Levinson is on the Board of Trustees of the La Jolla Playhouse and is a director of the Jewish Family Service of San Diego. He is a past-Chairman of the United Jewish Federation (San Diego) Annual Campaign, and past-Treasurer of Congregation Beth El in La Jolla.
He is also a member of the firm's Pro Bono Committee.
