Phillip Morton is an associate in the Intellectual Property Litigation practice group of the Cooley Litigation department. He joined the Firm in 2005 and is resident in the Reston office.
Mr. Morton's practice focuses on intellectual property litigation, with a particular emphasis on patent litigation and licensing. He has litigated a variety of intellectual property matters, including patent infringement and defense, trade dress infringement, false marking, licensing and contract matters. Mr. Morton also has experience in patent prosecution. Mr. Morton's technical expertise includes wireless and cellular communications, optical communications, networking, computer architecture and software development and engineering. Mr. Morton's legal matters have covered wireless communications, smart meter/grid technology, automated telephony systems, video compression and coding, broadband-over-powerline (BPL) technology, computer user interfaces and recreational products.
Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Morton was a summer associate in the Washington, DC office of Banner & Witcoff, Ltd. Mr. Morton also worked in the Commercial Wireless Division of the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, DC Prior to entering law school, Mr. Morton worked in the wireless communication and networking divisions of Motorola Inc. in Chandler, Arizona.
Mr. Morton earned a JD with honors from The George Washington University Law School in 2005. During law school, he was managing editor of the George Washington International Law Review. He earned a BSE, magna cum laude, in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University in 2001.
Mr. Morton is a member of the Virginia State Bar and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
