Summer Associate Program
Hands-on training with meaningful experience
With real assignments, interactive skills training, participation in practice group meetings and feedback from Cooley lawyers, summer associates can expect to get a true sense of what it means not only to practice at Cooley but also to “Be Cooley.”
Summer associates are reviewed at the midpoint and conclusion of the program, in addition to receiving real-time feedback from lawyers after all substantive assignments.

Interviewing for the summer program
Students can apply to our summer program through Cooley Direct or through their law school’s interview program.
When applying or interviewing, we ask candidates to specify their area of interest: general corporate, business litigation or one of our specialty groups
Seascape Weekend
At the start of the program, all summer associates meet at the Seascape Beach Resort in Northern California for three days of training, team building and networking. There’s also plenty of time to relax and get to know peers and other Cooley lawyers. This event is a highlight of the summer for many and a wonderful opportunity to experience Cooley culture.
Summer events
In addition to Seascape Weekend, each office has an exciting calendar of events to foster connection and showcase Cooley culture. Events vary by office and have included activities such as cooking classes, community service, sailing, spray painting, surf lessons, trivia night, yoga and pickleball. There’s no shortage of fun!
