Event summary

In past years, there has been an unprecedented explosion of innovation and investment in the life sciences sector, particularly in China and by companies with a strong nexus to Asia.

China's government has set itself the ambitious target of providing affordable and effective healthcare for all its citizens, while at the same time fostering the development of the country's domestic life sciences industry so that it is capable of delivering high quality products and services.

A variety of policies were launched by the Hong Kong government to spur technology innovation in the city. Among those developments include the launch of the public listing regime for pre-revenue life sciences companies on the Hong Kong Exchange in 2018 which saw 16 health and life sciences companies listed raising a total of $6.4 billion.

In addition, new policy measures have also been introduced to develop the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (the "Greater Bay Area"). With a combined GDP of $1.4 trillion and population of 67 million, the Greater Bay Area, comprising nine cities in Guangdong, as well as Hong Kong and Macau, aims to become a globally influential international innovation and technology hub by 2030.

At this exciting period of time for life sciences companies and in Asia, we will be providing two separate discussions:

  • Capital Markets & IPO Panel: On the morning of Tuesday, January 14, a discussion regarding the current state of the China and US capital markets, an outlook for 2020 and key items for companies to think through as they consider going public in Hong Kong or the United States.
  • Regulatory/Licensing Panel: On the morning of Wednesday, January 15, a discussion regarding the life sciences regulatory environment in China as well as key cross-border collaboration and licensing trends and considerations.

Join Cooley, CFGI, Solebury Trout and BioSpark as well as head representatives from J.P. Morgan, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation, KPMG and other members of the China life sciences community for these discussions.
