Employee Onboarding and Offboarding Considerations for Venture Capital Firms
Event summary
Cooley’s employment and fund formation teams discussed a topic that spans both of their practice groups – employee onboarding and offboarding. Our discussion included issues unique to the industry, considerations for venture capital firms and actions at various stages in the employee life cycle.
In addition to recruiting and hiring, diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, compensation decisions, and carried interest grants, we discussed restrictive covenants, such as noncompetition and nonsolicitation, and compliance policies. We covered employee offboarding – how to handle terminations and resignations, what to do about carried interest grants, and whether and how to negotiate a separation agreement. We encourage individuals involved in the human resources, legal, operations and/or compliance functions of their firms to watch on demand.
