In partnership with the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC, Johnson & Johnson Innovation – JLABS @ Washington, DC, hosted Cooley lawyers Matt Schwee and Lila Inman to discuss strategic and tactical considerations related to equity financing efforts of emerging growth companies, including a primer on potential sources of equity capital, investor outreach, pitch materials and common types of equity instruments.
The in-person-only session also broadly explored the importance of good corporate hygiene in the financing context, proper preparation for due diligence efforts and meeting investor expectations. The program ended with a mock term sheet negotiation, with the goal of introducing key venture capital lingo and various dueling considerations involved in venture capital financings.
