On November 7, 2023, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) issued a notice of proposed rulemaking that would allow it to supervise digital wallet and payment app providers deemed “larger participants” to ensure that such nonbank entities “adhere to the same rules as large banks, credit unions, and other financial institutions already supervised by the CFPB.”
