Cooley Rises Rapidly in Global Litigation 50
- Fourth-largest global revenue increase in The Lawyer’s special report
Palo Alto – December 9, 2016 – Cooley’s growth and dominant tech industry strengths are featured in UK publication The Lawyer magazine’s list of the Global Litigation 50 firms of 2016. Cooley’s 14% year-over-year increase in litigation department revenue is the fourth-largest increase of any firm in the Global 50.
The publication notes that “California is the center of the world’s technology industry and consequently remains a revved-up engine of IP and technology-related disputes locally, across the US and globally.” And Silicon Valley, in particular, “continues to create new clients for the leading firms at a bewildering rate.”
The Lawyer also comments on Cooley’s recent growth in headcount, with significant partner arrivals in Palo Alto in 2016. Securities litigation partner Patrick Gibbs joined from Latham & Watkins and Mika Mayer and a team of 11 IP lawyers and patent agents joined from Morrison & Foerster.
Earlier this year, Cooley ranked #13 on Law360’s Litigation Powerhouse list. The firm was also highly commended by the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers North America for its successful defense of client Gevo, a biofuels pioneer, in a patent infringement case brought by large competitor Butamax. In the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Europe, Cooley was also commended in the Innovation in Technology and Data Analytics category, for “leveraging the firm’s US expertise, resources and technology to help a UK client, IT consultancy Ciber, do fast and affordable eDiscovery for a litigation case.”
