Cooley Joins Scholarship Effort to Support Women in Tech Community
Washington, DC – June 27, 2017 – Cooley is supporting the Women Forward in Technology Scholarship program, which aims to help improve diversity within the tech-startup community.
Each year, multiple scholarships of $3,000 will be awarded to undergraduate and graduate students. Cooley’s involvement underscores the firm’s continued dedication to promoting a supportive working environment for women within the technology sector and beyond.
Cooley, together with Distil Networks, Anchor Point Fund, Foundry Group, Techstars, FullContact, Yesware, Help Scout and Cloudability, hopes the program will help enhance diversity and create a balance within the tech community, which has struggled with gender balance.
“Cooley is delighted to support a cause that is extremely important to the firm, aligning with our ongoing commitment to advancing women lawyers in the technology sector,” said Mike Lincoln, who chairs Cooley’s global business department. “We believe that promoting diversity in the fields of innovation and technology is vital and we’re honored to team up with this admirable group of companies.”
The program demonstrates a commitment to the “Tech Inclusion Pledge” that was signed by 80+ companies in collaboration with the White House and President Barack Obama in 2016. Companies that sign this pledge are “vowing to take concrete action to make the technology workforce at each of their companies more representative of the American people.”
