Fortune Names Cooley #1 Law Firm for Diversity
Palo Alto – December 7, 2018 – Fortune has again recognized Cooley on its Best Workplaces for Diversity list, ranking Cooley the #1 law firm for the second year in a row. The elite list highlights companies with a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
“Cooley is the most democratic and inclusive law firm I have worked in,” said an anonymous Cooley employee quoted in Fortune’s profile. “Everyone is appreciated regardless of their titled position.”
Fortune partners with Great Place to Work, an analytics and consulting firm, to select the Best Workplaces for Diversity list. Great Place to Work compared the experiences of female, minority and LGBTQ employees to the experiences of their colleagues’ at the same organizations. In total, Great Place to Work analyzed anonymous responses to survey questions about day-to-day workplace treatment reflecting more than 4.4 million employees.
“Our commitment to diversity and inclusion extends beyond the culture of our own offices,” said Amie Santos, Cooley’s director of diversity and inclusion. “We’re always looking for and welcoming opportunities to engage with our clients and others to increase representation in both the legal world and the industries in which our lawyers practice.”
Cooley often partners with organizations to enhance diversity. Earlier this year, Cooley joined forces with Diversity VC to bring the nonprofit initiative to the US in an effort to strengthen female and minority representation in the venture capital community. Cooley is also a supporter of the Women Forward in Technology Scholarship program to encourage the advancement of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Cooley has been widely honored for its diversity efforts by leading industry organizations and publications, including by earning a Gold Standard Certification from the Women in Law Empowerment Forum for seven consecutive years.
Cooley is welcoming applications for its Diversity Fellowship program through January 4.
