EU Trademark Reforms Embrace Modernity

"On 14 January, the United Kingdom implemented changes to the Trade Marks Act 1994 and the Trade Marks Rules 2008, which have been made by the Trade Marks Regulation 2018 and give effect to the European Union Trade Mark Directive 2015. The reforms have been in the pipeline for more than a decade, with the European Commission reviewing the functioning of the European trademark system in 2008 in a bid to further harmonise national laws of Member States, facilitate cooperation, streamline procedures, support anti-counterfeiting and to better reflect the modern business environment."
