Three Cooley Lawyers Named LCLD Fellows, Pathfinders
Palo Alto – April 10, 2019 – Partner Tanisha James is Cooley’s 2019 Leadership Council on Legal Diversity fellow. Associates Sophia Rios and Alex Weaver are also set to join the organization’s pathfinders program.
“Achieving meaningful diversity and inclusion is a huge challenge throughout our industry,” said Joe Conroy, Cooley’s chief executive officer. “We are proud of our ongoing partnership with LCLD and have seen firsthand the impact its programs can make on firm culture – not just in dialogue, but in action. I know Tanisha, Sophia and Alex will carry on that tradition and better prepare Cooley for the next generation.”
LCLD created its fellows program, which has instructed more than 1,600 midcareer lawyers since 2011, to identify, train and advance the next generation of leaders in the legal profession. This is the sixth year Cooley has nominated a lawyer for the LCLD program. Previous Cooley fellows include DeAnna Allen, co-chair of the firm’s diversity committee, as well as Jonie Ing Kondracki, Reuben Chen, Joseph Drayton and Jessica Valenzuela Santamaria.
The pathfinders program is designed to train high-performing, early career lawyers in critical career development strategies including leadership and the building of professional networks. Now in its fourth year as a full-scale program, the initiative has filled a gap in LCLD programming, targeting the youngest members of corporate law departments.
Founded in 2009, LCLD is a growing organization of more than 300 corporate chief legal officers and law firm managing partners who are personally committed to creating a more diverse and inclusive legal profession.
Cooley has been widely recognized for its diversity and inclusion efforts, including by earning Gold Standard Certification from the Women in Law Empowerment Forum for seven consecutive years and being named the #1 law firm on Fortune’s Best Workplaces for Diversity list. In 2018, Cooley was made the inaugural recipient of LCLD’s Compass Awards. Joe Conroy was also honored for driving the firm’s participation in LCLD programs.
