Cooley GO Launches in Asia
Singapore – July 28, 2020 – Cooley GO, the acclaimed resource center designed to help entrepreneurs grow their businesses, is launching in Asia. Cooley GO in Asia offers practical guidance and core legal document generation capabilities specifically tailored to serve the entrepreneur and investor community in the region. The site is intended to be a useful resource for entrepreneurs and investors across Asia, and initially will be focused on the Southeast Asia and India markets.
Since opening an office in Shanghai in 2011, Cooley has grown its Asia presence across Beijing, Hong Kong and, as of January, Singapore. Matthew Bartus, co-chair of the firm’s global emerging companies and venture capital practice, who relocated to Singapore from Silicon Valley to launch the office, will lead the buildout of Cooley GO’s Asia content in partnership with regional Cooley leaders.
“Supporting entrepreneurs and innovators so they can continue to develop their businesses and make positive impacts on our world is ingrained in Cooley’s DNA,” said Bartus. “To build on that promise in Asia is a natural step for us.”
Cooley GO’s Asia content will include region-specific material, as well as document generators for a variety of standard forms that may be used by early-stage companies, including employment documents and investment documents. The initial content will focus on Southeast Asia and India.
“The opportunity to broaden an already successful platform for a market with an extensive and growing pool of innovation and talent is exciting,” added Ferish Patel, partner in charge of Cooley’s Singapore office. “We’re thrilled to launch Cooley GO in Asia and provide unique and valuable resources to Asia just six months after launching in Singapore.”
Cooley’s Singapore office launched with Patel, a veteran of the region. With deep roots practicing in India, Hong Kong and Singapore, Patel has represented clients in every major Asia market for more than 15 years and has been based in Asia for the last 10 years. Since opening in January, Patel and Bartus have led the Singapore office to work on numerous significant VC financings and M&A deals, including Meesho’s Series D fundraise, FinAccel on its Series C fundraise, ZestMoney on its Series B-2 fundraise, GGV Capital on five strategic investments and Zilingo on its acquisition of nCinga.
The debut of Cooley GO in Asia comes on the heels of a successful six years since its US launch in July 2014. Cooley GO has been used to generate more than 250,000 incorporation, financing and other document packages. The site has received more than 4 million page views from users in 110 countries. It’s regularly updated with new topics, content, features and Cooley’s quarterly Venture Financing Report. It was expanded to the UK in 2015, the same year it won The Webby People's Voice Award, which has been hailed the internet's highest honor by The New York Times. Cooley was the first US law firm to win the accolade.
