Cooley Partners With Election Protection to Support US Voter Rights
Reston – October 30, 2020 – Cooley is working to ensure all eligible US voters have an equal opportunity to vote on Election Day by again working with Election Protection, the nation's largest nonpartisan voter protection project, which is run by a coalition of organizations including the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.
Over the last few months, more than 150 Cooley lawyers have participated in staffing Election Protection’s hotline, which provides voters with information about how to vote and make sure their vote is counted and documents problems reported by callers at polling sites, such as broken machines, intimidation and poll worker misinformation. On November 2 and Election Day, Cooley will host a remote call center that will support more than 500 hotline volunteers, including Cooley lawyers, business professionals, clients and alumni, answering calls from voters in Florida, Virginia, Illinois, Nebraska, Iowa and Hawaii. Cooley will also once again run Election Protection’s Northern Virginia Field Command Center on Election Day – this time virtually.
Voters can call or text Election Protection’s 1-866-OUR-VOTE (1-866-687-8683) hotline on Election Day during local polling hours. Bilingual English/Spanish assistance will be available on 1-888-VE-Y-VOTA (1-888-839-8682). Election Protection volunteers may also be available to help at the polls at select precincts.
