Cooley Honored at Legalweek Leaders in Tech Law Awards
Palo Alto – July 14, 2021 – Cooley won the Innovations in Diversity and Inclusion award in the law firm category in recognition of its collaboration with Google as part of the inaugural Legalweek Leaders in Tech Law Awards. Hosted by American Lawyer Media, the Legalweek Leaders in Tech Law Awards honor innovation in the legal technology sector and precedent-setting, game-changing projects and initiatives in the US. Lawyer Ariana Shaffer was also shortlisted for the Championing Diversity in Tech award.
The Innovations in Diversity and Inclusion award spotlights successful partnerships and initiatives between legal industry players that advance women, lawyers of color and other underrepresented groups. Dedicated to addressing the lack of representation in the legal and technology industries, Cooley leaders and Google’s in-house team collaborated to create and pilot a diversity mentoring program in June 2017 – the OC LEAD (Outside Counsel Leadership, Education, Advancement, Diversity) program. The program has proven highly successful and lauded by all participants, who have described it as tremendously valuable to their professional and personal development.
Cooley’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts have been consistently recognized by national and regional publications, including Diversity Lab, Working Mother, Crain’s New York Business and the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. The Women in Law Empowerment Forum recently awarded Cooley with its Gold Standard certification for the 10th consecutive year for the firm’s commitment to the advancement of women in the legal industry.
