Cooley Named a Top Firm for Diverse Representation Among Its Partnership
Palo Alto – August 19, 2021 – According to Law360, Cooley is among the top firms noted for having the most diverse representation among its partnership, with the firm ranked #3 on its list of those in the 601+ lawyers category. Cooley ranked #11 overall on the publication’s annual Diversity Snapshot, a breakdown of diverse representation among law firms.
This year’s Diversity Snapshot evaluated 266 firms, and the report includes a pipeline score, which is created to account for how attorney diversity often shrinks at each successive level of the hierarchy, despite the pool of available talent. The score also measures a firm’s percentage points above or below a set of benchmarks created using data from the American Bar Association and firms’ own headcounts. Among other things, this year’s edition shows that, amid a national reckoning on racial injustice and a pandemic that has shifted work dynamics for more than a year, the legal industry has stayed committed to increasing diverse representation in its ranks.
Cooley is dedicated to maintaining a truly diverse workplace that values and celebrates differences. The firm has been widely recognized for its diversity, equity and inclusion efforts by leading industry organizations and publications, including Diversity Lab, Working Mother, Crain’s New York Business and the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. This year, the Women in Law Empowerment Forum awarded Cooley with its Gold Standard Certification for the 10th consecutive time for the firm’s commitment to the advancement of women in the legal industry. In addition, an article to be published by the UC Irvine Law Review in 2022 reveals that of the 20 firms handling the most significant public M&A transactions from 2014 to 2020, Cooley is the only one with equal gender representation in leading roles across these deals.
