Cooley Continues Business Litigation Expansion in Boston
Boston – November 2, 2021 – Shamis Beckley has joined Cooley as the most recent partner in a series of additions to Cooley’s elite business litigation practice. Based in the firm’s rapidly growing Boston office, Beckley arrives from McDermott Will & Emery with a deep knowledge of complex civil litigation and appeals, in addition to a significant background managing False Claims Act investigations. She will focus her practice on complex civil litigation, white collar criminal defense, government investigations and appellate matters.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Shamis to our dynamic business litigation group as we continue to build our elite next-generation practice,” said Michael Attanasio, chair of Cooley’s global litigation department. “Her proven track record of successfully advocating for a variety of industry-leading clients throughout their life cycle will significantly enhance our capabilities across our platform, and will particularly benefit the expansion of Cooley’s healthcare regulatory practice in the East Coast’s thriving life sciences market.”
Beckley regularly represents healthcare companies in US Department of Health and Human Services investigations and False Claims Act cases. She advises clients on all aspects of civil and criminal investigations relating to government billing and contracting issues, including managing broad civil investigative demands and subpoenas. Additionally, Beckley has extensive experience representing clients in securities investigations and enforcement actions and provides legal guidance on anti‐corruption and corporate governance matters, while maintaining an active pro bono practice.
Beckley earned her JD from Harvard Law School. Before joining McDermott, Beckley completed clerkships for US Circuit Judge O. Rogeriee Thompson of the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and US District Judge Denise Casper of the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
“I’m very excited by the remarkable level of talent at Cooley and the way that the firm has expanded its litigation practice in recent years,” Beckley said. “Cooley has a highly respected litigation practice, an impressive platform and vast potential here in Boston. I’ve also been impressed with its commitment to maintaining a unique, diverse and collaborative culture, and I’m thrilled to be joining the team.”
Recognized by top industry publications as a preeminent global litigation department, Cooley’s litigation team is uniquely positioned to handle sensitive and high-stakes matters, with a proven track record of aggressively advocating for its industry-leading clients at trial.
