Press Release

J2 Ventures Secures $150 Million Argonne Fund

July 9, 2024

July 9, 2024 – Cooley advised J2 Ventures, a deep tech venture capital fund focused on new technologies that are critical for both the private sector and the national security interests of the US and its allies, on its $150 million Argonne Fund. The oversubscribed fund, majority veteran-owned and -led, is more than double the size of its last fund, with support from some of the largest financial institutions in the world – including JP Morgan, MetLife and the New Mexico State Investment Council. J2 Ventures will use proceeds from the fund to further invest in startups poised for growth with government collaborations, leveraging technologies that optimize outsized returns with minimal correlation to traditional markets.

Partner John Clendenin led the Cooley team advising J2 Ventures on the fund formation.

Additionally, partner Jeffrey Laretto leads Cooley in advising J2 Ventures on portfolio company financing transactions in connection with its Argonne Fund and prior J2 fund, as well as general investment advisory matters.
