Cooley Again Ranks Among Top AI Transactional Firms
New York – December 16, 2024 – In the third quarter of 2024, Cooley maintained its position at the forefront of significant transactions in the artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem – including multiple prominent venture financings and M&A deals.
Based upon a review of PitchBook’s deal database, the firm ranked second overall for venture capital transactions involving AI companies and their investors.* During the quarter, the firm worked on 80 reported VC transactions totaling more than $4.65 billion in combined deal value.
Among the dozens of novel transactions handled by the firm, Cooley’s venture financing deals included company-side representations of Abnormal Security, an AI-native human behavior security company, on its $250 million Series D financing; Cribl, a company enabling open observability for technology professionals, on its $319 million Series E funding round; and Superluminal Medicines on its $120 million Series A funding round to revolutionize the speed and accuracy of creating medicines through the use of generative biology, chemistry, and machine learning. The firm also represented Harvey, a legal generative AI platform building the future of professional services, on its $100 million Series C financing at a $1.5 billion valuation, which was backed by Sequoia Capital and the OpenAI Startup Fund.
The firm’s investor-side AI representations also were notable, and included the representation of the VC firm Founders Fund as a co-lead investor in Anduril Industries’ $1.5 billion Series F funding round, which increased its valuation to $14 billion. Cooley also represented Sound Ventures as an investor in a $230 million funding round of World Labs, which uses AI to create interactive 3D worlds from 2D images.
Cooley additionally represented clients on a number of M&A transactions involving AI companies or technologies. Among those deals, the firm represented Confluent, a data-streaming platform pioneering next-generation data-intensive AI applications, on its $220 million acquisition of WarpStream.
Cooley represents top high-growth companies across the entire AI ecosystem in corporate deals, ranging from financings and M&A to private equity and capital markets transactions. The firm also advises companies and funds on investments in – and acquisitions of – AI companies and technologies.
