Cooley: A Top-Five Firm for Petitioners at the PTAB
Palo Alto – August 5, 2015 – Cooley is a top-five law firm for petitioner-side U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board ("PTAB") proceedings, according to a recent Managing Intellectual Property article.
Based on an analysis of filings during the first six months of 2015, the publication found that Cooley, with more than 25 proceedings filed since January, is the fifth most active firm representing petitioners at the PTAB. The publication also found Cooley to be one of the most active firms overall, for both petitioners and patent owners.
"Since the passage of the America Invents Act, Cooley has remained a leader at the PTAB, having handled nearly 100 proceedings for petitioners and patent owners alike," said Jim Brogan, head of Cooley's IP practice. "We have employed such proceedings to invalidate numerous patents asserted against our clients, and we've had success defending the validity of our clients' patents as well. We remain committed to leveraging this important venue to secure commercially significant wins for our clients."
In the fall of 2014, Cooley launched PTAB Digest, an online database that provides insights on the PTAB's application of the procedural rules and substantive law governing post grant proceedings. The site was developed by a team of Cooley attorneys who spent hundreds of hours reading and analyzing thousands of recent PTAB decisions, and it features those decisions that are most helpful in explaining and applying the law.
In 2015, Cooley was named IP Litigation Department of the Year by The Recorder and named to the National Law Journal's elite IP Hot List.
