Cooley Adds Brussels Antitrust and Competition Leader to Partnership

January 31, 2025

Brussels – January 31, 2025 – Cooley is strengthening its global antitrust and competition practice with the election of Stella Sarma to the firm’s partnership. Based in Brussels, Sarma joined Cooley in 2019 as special counsel.

“Stella is one of the most sought-after antitrust and competition lawyers in Brussels,” said Sonya Erickson, Cooley partner and chair of the firm’s business department. “She has played a critical role in the development of our business in Brussels, including as an integral member of our global antitrust team for the worldwide merger control and foreign investment needs of our clients. We are thrilled that she has joined the partnership.”

Sarma focuses on European Union competition law, advising clients on global merger and foreign investment review and antitrust investigations. She has unparalleled experience steering worldwide transaction reviews in complex cross-border transactions before the European Commission and other authorities, particularly in the technology and healthcare industries. Sarma regularly guides multijurisdictional antitrust investigations, with a focus on the technology sector.

“I am proud and excited to join the partnership,” Sarma said. “Our firm’s culture of close collaboration is greatly valued by clients, and this is core to the success of many of our cross-border antitrust and competition mandates. I look forward to building on our platform and continuing to advise clients on their most complex and critical matters.”
