About Alexia
Alexia’s practice centers on patent preparation and prosecution in the life sciences sector, including portfolio development for biotech startups and emerging companies. She also has experience in the preparation of competitor landscape analyses and ex parte reexamination requests. Alexia has worked with a broad range of biotechnologies, including agtech, genetic engineering, microbiology, synthetic biology, immunotherapy, vaccines and pharmaceuticals.
Before joining Cooley, Alexia was a patent agent at LeClairRyan’s Alexandria, Virginia, office.
Alexia obtained her PhD from Johns Hopkins University’s Program in Molecular Biophysics. Her doctoral research focused on characterizing the malarial autophagy pathway as a target for antimalarial drug development using biophysical techniques, including X-ray crystallography and surface plasmon resonance.
As an undergraduate at Princeton University, Alexia conducted thesis research exploring the regulation of inner and outer membrane surface area in gram-negative bacteria through the use of fluorescence microscopy.
