About Austin

Austin applies his technical experience in embedded software, machine learning, electronics and physics to advise clients on intellectual property matters.

Before joining Cooley, Austin spent several years developing advanced technologies for some of the world’s largest automotive companies. As a research engineer for Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan, Austin developed control algorithms for semi-active suspension systems. Austin also worked for PACCAR, a leading commercial truck manufacturer and parent company to Kenworth and Peterbilt, located in Mount Vernon, Washington. There, Austin led ISO 26262 functional safety-compliant development of safety-critical features for autonomous and battery electric truck platforms, including steer-by-wire, brake-by-wire and battery management systems.

Austin also has a passion for teaching. He taught data structures and computer systems courses at Western Washington University, tutored inmates at Collins Bay Institution, a federal penitentiary, and led literacy and numeracy programs for children in remote First Nations communities in northern Canada.
