About Dane
Dane represents clients in a range of domestic and international litigation matters, including intellectual property and licensing disputes, white collar defense and investigations, and contract issues. Dane has experience handling all stages of a case – including trials and appeals – in courts and arbitral venues throughout the US. He regularly advises clients on their rights, obligations and litigation prospects under complex licensing, manufacturing and collaboration agreements.
Dane’s representations span a variety of industries, including life sciences and healthcare, electronic devices and semiconductors, software, ecommerce, and social media.

Since 2016, Dane has been an alternate member of the institutional review board for the RAND Corporation, a global think tank dedicated to improving public policy and decision-making through research and analysis.
Before joining Cooley, Dane clerked for Judge Thomas J. Whelan of the Southern District of California. While attending the University of San Diego School of Law, he was elected to the Order of the Coif and the Order of Barristers. He also was a member of the San Diego Law Review and the appellate moot court executive board.
Before becoming a lawyer, Dane was a submarine warfare officer in the US Navy. After graduating with distinction from the Navy’s Officer Candidate School and advanced nuclear power course, Dane served in a variety of operational and leadership roles during two overseas deployments, and he was named the USS Miami’s (SSN 755) Junior Officer of the Year. At Cooley, Dane represents his fellow veterans pro bono in efforts to upgrade their military discharges.
