
About Dena
Dena is a seasoned trial and appellate attorney. Her successes include winning a rare post-trial motion to overturn a jury verdict in a patent case, securing complete noninfringement for several Fortune 500 companies and invalidating a myriad of patent claims. Dena has experience with a wide array of technologies, such as video game hardware, augmented reality mobile games, computer software, artificial intelligence, semiconductor chips and medical devices.
Dena regularly handles “bet-the-company” patent cases, where injunctions or billions of dollars are at stake. For her clients, she develops tailored and creative strategies for winning noninfringement and invalidity. She is known for her pragmatic and efficient approach to litigation.
Dena has a significant trial and Federal Circuit appellate practice. She has litigated in venues throughout the country – including California, Delaware, Texas, Florida, New York, Washington and more. She has considerable experience litigating before the International Trade Commission (ITC) and the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in inter partes review (IPR) proceedings. She also defends clients in arbitration, including international arbitrations for global cross-border disputes.
Dena clerked for Judge William Alsup of the US District Court for the Northern District of California. She also completed a summer externship for Judge Maxine M. Chesney of the Northern District of California.
Dena regularly serves on Cooley’s summer associate committee.
