About Hilarie
Hilarie focuses on complex litigation, class actions, multidistrict litigations, arbitrations, and internal investigations, working on behalf of clients in the technology, financial services, communications, government contracts, and pharmaceutical industries in the public and private sectors. As an experienced litigation paralegal, Hilarie works closely with lawyers to develop strategies through all stages of a lawsuit or investigation, and she regularly assists with drafting pleadings and discovery responses, conducting research, writing memos, preparing witnesses for depositions, summary judgment briefing, and hearing and trial preparation.
Since Hilarie joined Cooley in 2006, she has been the lead paralegal on over 60 lawsuits, including managing other paralegals on larger and more complex suits. As busy as she is, pro bono work is especially rewarding for Hilarie, and she continues to make it a part of her practice.
Hilarie’s notable cases include:
- Serving as lead paralegal on a multidistrict proceeding involving 19 consumer class actions seeking $12 billion in damages, resulting in a class-wide settlement of $15.5 million
- Acting as lead paralegal on a multidistrict proceeding consolidating 75 lawsuits, resulting in a case dismissal affirmed by the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit
- Serving as lead trial paralegal in a federal lawsuit in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, which involved a three-week bench trial and resulted in the client being awarded $18 million plus attorneys’ fees, with affirmation by the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit
