About Jon
Jon Gavenman represents a wide range of companies from startups to public companies in the software, semiconductor, telecommunications and internet-related industries. His practice focuses on securities financing and M&A transactions, as well as advising companies on general corporate, securities law matters and all kinds of proposed business transactions.
Jon has represented both issuers and underwriters in numerous public offerings and has substantial experience in both buyer and seller-side M&A transactions and in both issuer and investor-side venture capital and other private financing transactions. He has worked on complex international and domestic joint venture transactions. His clients have included Access360, Agari Data, Aspect Communications, Bowman Capital, Brio Software, Cirrus Logic, CrossWorlds Software, Fibex Systems, Goldman Sachs, Grouper Networks, Jaspersoft, Lam Research, Matrix Partners, META Group, Meta Software, OSA Technologies, Sequoia Capital, SiTime, Spinner Networks, Supplyframe, TiVo (and its predecessors Rovi and Macrovision), Unison Software and WebTV Networks.
Jon joined Cooley in 2008. Over the course of July 1996 to October 2008, he was a senior attorney and then a director/shareholder of Venture Law Group and its acquiror (in October 2003) Heller Ehrman. He began his legal career in 1991 at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he worked until leaving to join Venture Law Group.
