About Joseph

Joseph’s practice focuses on complex litigation, with an emphasis on patent- and technology-related disputes. He has achieved success for his clients through his ability to analyze complex technological and legal issues – and explain them simply and persuasively.

Joseph has experience litigating patent, trade secret, and contract disputes in federal and state courts and in private arbitration. He has taken a lead role on numerous inter partes review challenges at the US Patent and Trademark Office and on appeals to the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.  Additionally, Joseph counsels clients on various intellectual property matters, including evaluating competitors’ patent portfolios, licensing negotiations, conducting freedom-to-operate analyses and managing trade secret issues.

Joseph has successfully resolved patent and technology cases in the fields of medical devices, pharmaceutical formulations, material synthesis and processing, electronics, consumer products, computer software, and computer networking and security.

Following law school, Joseph clerked for Judge Julia S. Gibbons on the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Prior to law school, he directed a summer camp and retreat center in central Wisconsin.
