About Julia
Julia Brinton is an associate in Cooley's antitrust and competition practice and advises clients on antitrust issues, including mergers and acquisitions, compliance with the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act, and antitrust counseling. She has experience in matters before the US Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission. Julia has worked with clients in several industries, including consumer goods, computer hardware and software, pharmaceuticals and medical devices, telecommunications, and aviation.
Representative Matters
- Minute Key Holdings Inc. – Represented Minute Key, the leading supplier of self-service key duplication kiosks, in its sale to Hillman, the leading supplier of back-of-store key cutting equipment, a transaction that was cleared by the FTC after an intense review
- BroadSoft Corporation – Represented BroadSoft Corporation, a leading unified communications as a service (UCaaS) provider, in its $1.9 billion acquisition by Cisco Systems, Inc., a rival UCaaS provider
- Zeltiq Aesthetics – Represented leading medical technology company whose flagship CoolSculpting System is the sales leader in the body contouring segment of medical aesthetics, in its $2.4 billion acquisition by global pharmaceutical manufacturer Allergan plc, allowing Allergan to expand its global aesthetic business
- Rovi Corporation – Represented Rovi Corporation in its $1.1 billion acquisition of TiVo, combining two media and entertainment technology innovators
- NetScout Systems – Represented NetScout, a provider of performance analytics and operational intelligence solutions for telecommunications service providers and enterprise customers, in obtaining unconditional DOJ clearance of NetScout's proposed $2.6 billion acquisition of the Communications Business of Danaher Corporation. DOJ issued a Second Request in December 2014 but ended up closing its investigation early and without imposing any remedial conditions on the parties
- Snyder's-Lance – Represented Snyder's-Lance in obtaining FTC clearance for its acquisition of Diamond Foods
- Represented airlines in connection with the acquisition of foreign route authorities, including contested proceedings before the Department of Transportation
Before entering law school, Julia worked as a legal assistant in the Washington, DC office of Arnold & Porter in the antitrust and competition practice.
While at the University of Richmond School of Law, Julia was elected to the Order of the Coif and a member of the McNeill Law Society. She was also articles editor on the University of Richmond Law Review.
