About Oliver
Oliver Ware is a European patent attorney, European patent litigator, and Chartered (UK) patent attorney in Cooley’s London office. His practice covers the drafting and prosecution of British, European and International patent applications for a wide range of inventions, with a particular focus on chemical and mechanical subject-matter. Oliver has significant experience with pharmaceutical patents, including successful oral proceedings before the Examining Division and Opposition Division of the European Patent Office. He also has particular experience of patent prosecution in the fields of medical devices, organic electronics, and in the oil & gas sector. This has seen him work with a wide range of clients, from early stage start ups through to multinationals with large patent portfolios.
Oliver also is involved in the commercial side of patent work, having experience with both due diligence and freedom-to-operate analysis.
Before joining Cooley, Oliver trained for three years at one of the largest specialist intellectual property firms in the UK. Prior to his entry to the profession, Oliver completed a PhD at University College London which included a placement in industry. He investigated intermolecular C-H activation and heterocycle formation via an intramolecular hydride transfer, with his work on the latter having been published in 2019. Oliver’s undergraduate degree, also at University College London, included a research project developing novel synthetic routes towards conjugated polymers for organic electronics.
