The Criminal Division of the US Department of Justice (DOJ) has officially launched its new Corporate Whistleblower Awards Pilot Program, which offers financial incentives to individuals who report corporate misconduct and meet certain criteria. This is the latest in a continuing series of steps by the DOJ and other regulators to encourage whistleblowing and corporate self-reporting, complementing existing initiatives from the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), and the US Department of Commerce. Collectively, these incentive-based programs place significant pressure on public and private corporations of all sizes to maintain strong compliance programs, address internal whistleblower claims swiftly, and remediate issues before a government investigation.
