Fifth Circuit Reverses Teen’s Blocked Lawsuit Against New Orleans-Area Police Officers

A Cooley pro bono team secured an appeal from the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit reversing a lower court’s decision granting qualified immunity to officers who held Black teenagers looking for a lost dog at gunpoint. The Fifth Circuit held that the officers were not entitled to qualified immunity for stopping the teens because a reasonable jury could find that the officers had no reasonable basis to suspect any criminal activity.
Sunrun to Acquire Vivint Solar for Enterprise Value of $3.2 Billion

Cooley advised Sunrun, a publicly traded, leading provider of residential solar, battery and energy services, on its agreement to acquire Vivint Solar in an all-stock transaction for an enterprise value of $3.2 billion. Partners Jamie Leigh, Ian Nussbaum and Calise Cheng led the Cooley team advising Sunrun on the transaction, which is expected to close in Q4.
